Wholesalers, often grouped in with importers and exporters, may be hired by governments or private businesses to plan and coordinate the import, export, or wholesale of particular goods. Wholesalers also sometimes are entrepreneurs and start their own exporting and wholesaling businesses.

Duties and tasks

  • Delegating roles to agents and distributors
  • Determining the needs of particular markets and areas
  • Developing business plans appropriate to particular markets
  • Keeping an eye out for local, national, and international business opportunities
  • Purchasing imported goods to sell at wholesale prices
  • Working with customs officials and governmental representatives to ensure the legalities of the particulars of international trade

Working conditions
