Travel Consultant

Travel Consultants offer information and advice to clients regarding travel destinations, activities and accommodation, and plan and coordinate travel itinerary. They must assess client desires and budgetary restrictions to plan and offer best information for a pleasant experience.

Duties and tasks

  • Advise clients and tourists on preferred destinations and accommodation based on interests and anticipated experience
  • Book and confirm means of transportation to travel destination as well as ground transportation, accommodation and tour packages to plan a gratifying travel experience
  • Evaluate clients preferences and objectives in travel destination, activities and accommodation as well as establishing their preferred budget
  • Inform travellers of confirmed bookings, visa and medical information as well as currency exchanges, travel insurance and security information
  • Offer information on tourist attractions and destinations, activities and various organisations offering activities and services.
  • Offer travel itineraries to clients based on budget, desired location and expressed preferences of activities and sight-seeing locations
  • Process payments from clients and ensure they have all required documentation for travel and accommodation

Working conditions

Travel Consultants typically work Mondays to Fridays in travel agencies, tourist or transportation companies or call centres. They typically work with computers and other travel database systems and liaise with various organisations to provide information, book and confirm travel information for clients.
