Supervisor (Retail)

Supervisors (Retail) directly oversee the work of cashiers, customer service workers, stock clerks and other related workers. In addition, Supervisors (Retail) are responsible for purchasing, budgeting, maintaining financial records, and personnel work.

Duties and tasks

  • Determines pricing policies and that products are correctly priced and displayed
  • Ensures health, safety and security procedures and rules
  • Interviews, hires and trains employers
  • Maintains records of purchases, sales and requisitions
  • Monitors sales activities to ensure good customer service
  • Prepares work schedules and assignments for workers
  • Supervises cashiers, stock clerks, sales representatives, and other related workers

Working conditions

Supervisors (Retail) have offices in the stores and usually work 40 hours a week. A portion of the time is spent on paperwork and the computer, but the majority of the time is spent supervising employees and ensuring that customers receive prompt service.
