Door-to-Door Salesperson

Door-to-Door Salespersons travel door-to-door on scheduled routes selling goods or services. They should be able to engage strangers and convince them of the benefits from certain products and services. They must have excellent communication and negotiation skills.

Duties and tasks

  • Ability to read individuals to identify needs and interests and adapt sales technique accordingly
  • Demonstrate product uses and effectiveness; provide samples of goods to customers and illustrate benefits from goods and services
  • Document daily sales
  • Gather products and goods to bring to door-to-door sales attempts
  • Maintain individual or company product stock levels and order necessary replenishments
  • Order goods or services sold to customers or package products for them; request referrals for future sales attempts
  • Persuade customers of goods and service usefulness and quality, and encourage sales and future purchases and ongoing orders
  • Plan and schedule door-to-door routes
  • Process payments from customers and issue receipts or invoices

Working conditions

Door-to-Door Salespersons typically work rotating schedules based on routes and possible administrative tasks. They may work partially in an office or home environment processing orders, checking inventory and taking training courses, while most of their time will be spent in residential areas going door-to-door. They should be able to stand for long periods of time without getting fatigued.
