If businesses are to survive in an increasingly competitive and information-oriented environment they will need trained managers who can speak, write and interact with others efficiently, effectively and professionally.

This unit will define the importance and role of effective communication in a manager's job and their role in a 'learning' organisation. While taking COM21 you will begin to evaluate the structure and role of communication networks and the value and use of communities of practice. You will discuss how to communicate effectively in an increasingly diverse business landscape, evaluate change management strategies, practise communicating and managing change, and crisis and conflict in the business environment. You will also discuss and analyse external communication strategies and managing perceptions and public opinion.

At the successful completion of this unit you should be able to:

  4. participate in creative and strategic planning;
  5. develop and implement a crisis management strategy;
