Economic Development is a project unit which will have two broad aims. The first is to increase students' awareness and understanding of conceptual and contemporary issues and concepts related to economic development in Australia and countries in the process of development. The second is to foster students' ability to reach independent and informed assessments of development issues and their possible solutions.

At the completion of this unit students will be able to:

  1. Research and investigate issues related to local and international economic development
  2. Analyse and critically evaluate theoretical concepts related to economic development, economic development issues, problems and policies
  3. Demonstrate analytical thinking related to the complex mix of forces that can both foster and hinder economic development locally and internationally
  4. Critically evaluate the main policy solutions put forward by governments and various international agencies identifying their limitations.
