This is a foundation unit within the MBA Executive program. In this unit, we operationalise the concept of design thinking in international and local business, and examine how the tools of business design can be employed across the disciplines and functions covered in this program. Drawing on your experience as a manager, this unit will provide opportunities to consider global business problems, and those in your own industry and professional context. Adopting design thinking methodology and tools, you will lead teams to analyse, define and create sustainable and ethical solutions to contemporary business issues.

This unit requires on-campus attendance in Melbourne. Attendance for the 4-day intensive is compulsory.

Session 1:

  • Friday 17 - Sunday 19 March from 8:30am to 7:30pm
  • Monday 20 March from 8:30am to 5:30pm

Session 2:

  • Friday 18 - Monday 21 August
  • Offsite industry presentation day - date TBA

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

  1. analyse and discuss design thinking, its manifestations and implications across organisational contexts
  2. differentiate between various contemporary methods to identify opportunities and solve problems
  3. create and communicate end-user driven solutions to business problems or opportunities utilising design thinking
  4. demonstrate creative, critical and ethical thinking through developing and recommending solutions to business problems and opportunities that benefit relevant stakeholders
  5. evaluate potential outcomes of design thinking in view of better decision making, implementation and sustainability of solutions.
