This unit provides the students with a business focused exploration of laws that impact on customers and competitors. The legal risks arising from the Australian Competition and Consumer Law, on business actions and strategies including misleading or deceptive conduct, unfair sales techniques, pricing strategies, consumer guarantees, selling strategies and collusion are analysed in the context of the legal impact on a business, its directors, management and staff.

At the completion of this unit students will be able to:

  1. analyse and explain the Australian Competition and Consumer Law as it applies to business actions and strategies
  2. assess the consequences of a breach of the laws for business, directors and staff
  3. assess a business decision or strategy in the context of the law, and articulate it to the Board, directors and/or management
  4. use oral and written skills appropriate to the business audience
  5. work collaboratively as part of a business team to identify consumer and competition law risks and articulate them to the Board, directors and/or management.
