Explore how the science of psychology can explain and predict behaviour in everyday life. You’ll gain an overview of key psychological concepts. Touch on theories of motivation, memory, personality, and more. 

Human behaviour is not universal. Why do individuals behave the way they do? Lecture content will introduce and explore theoretical descriptions of individual differences such as personality and intelligence that can impact behaviour in a variety of contexts, as well as some of the factors which can influence psychological well-being, such as stress and coping. Brain and Behaviour

In this subject you will learn about how the discipline and practice of psychology can be applied in different ways (e.g., to promote mental health, physical health, social participation and inclusion), and in different areas including individual and public health, sports, forensic, and community-based psychology. You will consider how psychological theories and evidence can be applied to a range of psychology and health-related fields and be introduced to key practical skills relevant to these fields. You will create a personal development plan, which will involve self-reflection and evaluation of existing skills, skills to be developed, and strategies to developing self- efficacy, self-confidence, and self-esteem, with a view to your future career goals.

The ability to sense and respond to our environment is critical to the survival of all living things, from the simplest of single celled organisms right up to complicated animals like us. In this subject, you will explore how we sense our environment, and how our brains use this information to guide behaviour. You will focus on four broad areas; first, you will investigate the senses, smell, taste, vision, hearing, and touch. Then, you will learn how hormones affect multiple body systems to get us ready to act on our environment. Next, you will learn about the internal processes that keep our bodies working efficiently. Finally, you will uncover the mechanisms of learning and memory. This subject consists of self-guided online lessons and timetabled workshop classes.
