Bar Attendants and Baristas

Bar Attendants and Baristas are responsible for making, mixing and serving a variety of hot and cold beverages to customers in cafes, coffee shops, hotels, bars, restaurants and clubs.

Duties and tasks

  • Clean tables and equipment and wipe down serving areas
  • Display excellent customer service and cash handling skills
  • Maintain high levels of workplace hygiene and observe relevant OH&S policies
  • Make a variety of different coffees such as cappuccino, latte and espresso
  • Prepare and mix ingredients to make cocktails
  • Serve a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks to customers

Working conditions

Bar Attendants and Baristas may work in cafes, coffee shops, restaurants, bars and other food service venues. They are required to stand on their feet for long periods of time in an environment that is typically noisy and busy. They mostly work shifts including early mornings, late nights, weekends and public holidays.
