Ever wish you could put life on fast-forward, and hit play when you’re finally experienced, accomplished, and in control? With everything new comes a touch of anxiety, and we at Open Universities Australia (OUA) get that. In fact, it’s our mission to make university study as accessible and low-risk as possible. As they say – it’s the journey, not the destination … so buckle up!
1. Ease in with a single subject
No prior experience? No worries! Through OUA, you can start with just one subject. There are no entry requirements, so all you need to do is enrol and start studying at your own pace. This is the perfect way to find your feet, and build a greater sense of confidence.
If you feel unprepared to take on your first subject – that’s okay. OUA offers Enabling Courses, which help you learn the absolute basics of uni, including reading, researching, and essay writing.
2. Test the waters for a lesser cost
With OUA, you’re free to choose subjects from a number of Australia’s leading unis. Naturally, subjects are a lot cheaper than full degrees (we’re talking hundreds, rather than thousands), so take it as an opportunity to explore what ignites your passion!
3. Everything counts
Say you decide that after a few subjects, you want to dive into a full degree. The subjects you’ve studied may count towards that degree, so you’ll be on your way to graduation before you even start.
4. No risky business
Ah, the trusty census date. It’s three weeks into a study term, and the last date you can withdraw your enrolment without paying a cent. Consider it a three-week trial period, for you to assess whether the course, or online study is right for you.
5. Put your wallet away … for now
Forget upfront payment. If you’re eligible for a student loan (FEE-HELP), you’ll have years to pay off the loan (which is interest-free may we add?) Loans can apply to both full degrees and single subjects, so you can stress less about finances, and get your head in the study game.
6. Reduce your fees for good
If you’ve got your heart set on a full degree, you may be eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP). This means you’ll share the cost of your degree with the government, and no repayment is required. To pay your share of the fees, you can take out a loan (HECS-HELP), so no need to save coin before enrolling.
If doubt is standing between you and your more accomplished future self, don’t hesitate to contact a friendly student advisor via phone (13 OPEN) or live chat on our website. They can help you design a study solution that’s tailored to you, so you can give trepidation the boot, and kick-start an exciting new journey.
