Couriers and Postal Deliverer

Couriers and Postal Deliverers are in charge of handling and delivering letters, documents, packages and other forms of mail to the community. They must ensure that the mail and parcels are kept safe while in their care. Couriers and Postal Deliverers are required to also make sure that fragile packages are delivered unbroken and intact. They provide a vital service to the community.

Duties and tasks

  • Answer postal customers delivery questions
  • Collect currency for COD packages
  • Deliver items to residences and businesses
  • Help with incoming mail and correct misaddressed parcels
  • Keep accurate records of items delivered and picked up
  • Load and unload mail and packages
  • Maintain logs and records
  • Obtain signatures for packages
  • Sort items and sequence them for efficient delivery
  • Take orders for deliveries

Working conditions

Couriers and Postal deliverers are constantly on the road so they must deal with the stresses of traffic jams and not so great drivers. There are some couriers who use bicycles to transport packages. The job is usually easy but upon occasion, customers can become upset if their packages have not been delivered as expected.
