  On successful completion of the subject, you will be able to:

  1. demonstrate a broad and critical understanding of the history of terrorism and political violence in sub-national, national, and international politics
  2. demonstrate a critical understanding of the principal theoretical perspectives, debates and challenges in the study of terrorism and counter-terrorism including theories of the causative factors behind terrorism
  3. analyse the politics of terrorism and counterterrorism, together with its historical evolution, and the social, economic and political conditions in which terrorism has emerged
  4. evaluate the implications for counterterrorism practices and policy of particular ways of thinking about terrorism
  5. communicate clearly and coherently both orally and in writing
