About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- contextualise technological applications and work processes related to knowledge organization systems and metadata
- use international indexing standards to describe information objects
- create information products using international standards and approaches
- demonstrate cultural competencies when creating information products and tools.
- A week-by-week guide to the topics you will explore in this subject will be provided in your study materials.
Basic principles involved in structuring information objects and creating the metadata which makes them retrievable. Topics include information structures, hypertext, databases, automatic and derived indexing, metadata and description, document type definitions (DTDs) and schemas, indexing languages, and standards and subject analysis.
