Professional Studies and Planning for Teaching
About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- analyse and reflect on the role of the teacher in planning effective teaching and learning using current understandings about how students learn and knowledge in some content areas
- create and evaluate effective lesson plans to show clear links between curriculum, objectives, teaching and learning strategies and assessment
- demonstrate the use of effective planning, and a range of teaching, learning and assessment strategies in a classroom setting
- examine the concepts of teacher professional identity, resilience and emotional wellbeing.

- Australian context & professional standards and responsibilities; characteristics of effective teachers; digital professional portfolio
- Planning: The teaching & learning cycle, and curriculum development; lesson planning (introductions and closures); objectives

This subject will introduce lesson planning including selecting objectives and appropriate teaching, learning and assessment strategies. In addition it will include the use of appropriate resources and effective communication to support learning.
A two week professional placement will enable practical application of the knowledge and skills gained along with insights into the complexity of the teacher’s role. Passing this subject is contingent on successful completion of the professional practice component of the subject.
