This unit was previously known as Architecture Studio.

This unit examines the relationship between idea, space, form and structure as it is related to human culture and a specific site. It engages in analysis, interpretation and creation of architectural language of the built environment through small projects using methods of communication concurrently being developed in other units. Work integrated learning is introduced through developing and understanding of the design process in architectural practice.

Please Note:  If it’s your first time studying a Curtin University unit you’ll need to complete their compulsory ‘Academic Integrity Program’. It only takes two hours to complete online, and provides you with vital information about studying with Curtin University. The Academic Integrity Program is compulsory, so if it’s not completed your unit grades will be withheld.

Find out more about the Academic Integrity module.

At the completion of this unit students will be able to:

  1. interpret spatial design and place making through conjectures in response to site opportunities and constraints
  2. generate ideas and concepts as the basis for designing small projects in terms of space, form and structure
  3. explore, interpret and synthesis space, form and inhabitation, recognising human culture as manifest in the built environment.
  • Assignment 1 — Reflection (40%)
  • Assignment 2 — Investigation (30%)
  • Presentation (30%)
