Event management is a dynamic environment that encompasses a wide range of time sensitive duties and extensive planning to ensure that the event achieves its desired outcomes. Events require thorough planning that may incorporate concepts of innovative practice.In this subject you will develop key knowledge and skills needed to manage events. You will explore topics such as marketing, sponsorship, budgeting, resource management, and stakeholder engagement. You will experience managing events through case studies, industry engagement, and the creation of your own event management plan – based on an evidence-based approach. Through these learning activities and experiences, you will be able to identify the roles, skills, methods, and processes involved in managing an event.

Rapid social change impacts on the ways people socialise, spend their money, work, and participate in leisure. The leisure industry is also going through rapid change with the emergence of contemporary forms of leisure such as extreme sports, multi-purpose leisure centres, online gaming, extended reality (XR) experiences, social media, and adventure tourism, as well as a greater focus on sustainable development. Global frameworks such as Article 24: Right to Rest and Leisure in the United Nation&#39;s Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are leveraged for you to explore opportunities to increase access to leisure participation by everyone. This subject introduces you to leisure industry components such as recreation, sport, entertainment, events, the arts, and tourism to enable you to examine how businesses, governments, and communities may leverage sustainable opportunities that arise with changes in leisure participation and society. This subject enables you to learn through practice via authentic opportunity-based and problem-based learning experiences applying tools such as Asset Mapping, Appreciative Inquiry, and reflective practice.

This subject investigates events of varying scale, and identifies their contribution as a potential key driver of growth and economic development of businesses, cities and communities. It analyses the social, cultural and environmental impacts of events on destinations and communities. It also examines the relevance, value and appropriateness of events. Activities will support analysing types of events, venues, themes, target markets, relevance to communities and how events contribute to the mixed economy. You will examine approaches to conceptualising an event of relevance for a specific audience, prepare a simulated event bid, engage in group presentations, and complete an observation of an event to analyse its design components. These activities and tasks will provide you with opportunities to identify key skills and how you may apply this learning in the future to event design.This subject introduces learning through practice by exposing you to authentic learning experiences. These experiences are placed at the centre of learning and assessment, so you have the opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours necessary to respond to industry, community and/or global needs. You will be introduced to:- a range of methods, tools, techniques and approaches to practice- principles and perspectives such as values, ethics, empathy and leadership in real world scenarios- reflection and deliberative thinking as a means of developing knowledge, skills, attitudes and aspirations- ways of understanding problems and developing solutions through active inquiry.

Tasmania has a growing reputation as a gourmet paradise, with high quality primary products and a growing fermented food and drink industry. In this subject, students will learn about the full production life cycle for fermented food and drink, from raw materials and fermentation basics, through to the packaging, labelling, distribution and marketing of final products. Development of more fermentation businesses in Tasmania may offer an alternative to current problems of an economy reliant on extraction, high agricultural food waste, and over-reliance on State-based employment.While staff from the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture drive this subject, expert input and content has been sourced across a range of fermentation industries, so students will have access to a diverse range of online materials. Assessment is 100% internal (i.e., no exam) and structured to encourage you to actively engage with ideas and issues and learn collaboratively with and through your peers.

This subject considers strategies to sample, understand, and address geoconservation and geotourism issues. By way of a series of field-based and problem-based learning experiences, you will develop the skills and knowledge to conduct and curate (geo)heritage inventories, assess prospective sites for use as geotouristic and geoeducational purposes, propose new geotouristic experiences and develop materials for geoconservation and geotourism consumers and operators.This subject is the only one of its kind in Australia, and as such, you as a student will work on real case studies, with all leaders in the field. You will be supported to use new digital technologies, undertake social research and work closely with industries and protected areas groups to learn how to practice geoconservation and interpret the landscape for recreation and enjoyment.Absolutely no background knowledge is required to undertake this subject.

This subject will enable students to understand how tourism and cultural industries have dramatically changed our lives. Cultural industries have grown significantly, with examples such as museums, regional festivals and wilderness adventures. At the same time there is an increasing capacity for travel and an increasing need to replace income earned from traditional industries with those from tourism. Different societies are now not only in greater contact with each other but also relating to each other in new ways, as well as benefitting from the growth of cultural capacity in their own localities. The subject will cover three related areas: The first situates the creative economy in the various social, economic and political contexts around the world. Creative cultural industries have become crucial to the life of major cities, regional economies and remote areas. Second, creative cultural industries have expanded through travel, international access and changes in the way cities, history, nature, culture, music, food, and art develop into new forms of experiences. Third, students will gain a detailed knowledge of diversity and innovation through the development of their own creative and cultural case studies, making their participation in this subject into an engaging, reflexive and creative experience itself.

Tourism, Creativity and Culture

The planning, implementing and evaluating of major sport events is characterised by dynamic management environments that bring together a wide array of stakeholders. Large multi-sport events present both logistical and organisational challenges for host cities, as well as opportunities to plan for and create a range of short- and long-term benefits and event legacies. This course will introduce students to the complexity of managing major sport events. Students will study a number of planning, operations and event legacy management issues across the life span of major sport events, from the bid phase to event evaluations. This course will offer students practical as well as theoretical insights into the dynamic and at times challenging nature of sport event management.Students should not enrol in this subject if they have completed: 2018HSL Organising and Staging Major Sport Events / 2018THS Sport Event and Facility Planning
