Carpet Layer

Carpet Layers work in many places including homes, businesses and office buildings. They measure and install all kinds of carpeting including cut pile, Berber, Saxony, textured, plush velvet, Frieze, Cut and Loop pile and multi-level pile. They cut and install the carpeting to the specifications of the customer as well as those of the manufacturers recommendations.

Duties and tasks

  • Accurately measure areas to be carpeted and document them
  • Create estimates for materials and cost to customer
  • Ensure that the area is clean and swept
  • Ensure that the grain of all pieces of carpet lay correctly
  • Install carpet padding
  • Install tack strips
  • Lay carpeting
  • Measure and cut carpet padding
  • Remove all trim around baseboard
  • Remove leftover carpet pieces
  • Stretch and secure carpeting
  • Use installation tools

  • Physically able to spend a lot of time on knees

Working conditions

Carpet Layers do not work in the same place day after day. They must travel to peoples homes, businesses and to office buildings as well. The areas of installation are generally climate controlled which makes the carpet layer more comfortable while working.
