Bricklayer Assistant

Bricklayers Assistants provide support Bricklayers in cutting and binding various types of masonry. This includes building bricks and blocks in mortar to build foundations, mending walls and constructing other structures such as partitions and arches.

Duties and tasks

  • Adhere to strict occupational health and safety guidelines
  • Apply layers of mortar as a base and binder for bricks and remove surplus using a trowel
  • Assist Bricklayers as required and follow instruction
  • Assist in the construction and dismantle of scaffolding, ramps, barricades and warning lights and signs as per state or site based requirements
  • Clear rubbish from site
  • Load and unload materials, tools and equipment and place in position as per Bricklayers instructions
  • Mix and pour concrete, plaster and mortar and spread as required and as per job specifications
  • Repair clay bricks, cement bricks and other structures as necessary
  • Secure foundations using moisture-resistant materials
  • Use a range of tools and equipment to pre-cut stone and concrete blocks

Working conditions

Bricklayers Assistants typically work regular Monday to Friday hours with some overtime on weekends. They work outdoors and may be required to work at heights, in confined spaces and in difficult weather conditions.
