About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- assess the factors relevant to the policy decision process
- distinguish between good and bad energy policies
- identify the role and range of institutions involved in the policy process
- identify the range of policy objectives
- choose the appropriate policy instruments to address these objectives.

The objective of this subject is to provide an understanding of the policy processes and institutions that give rise to the shape, direction and outcomes in the energy sector. The sources of energy policy objectives are explored and the range of policy instruments to achieve objectives is outlined. These objectives and instruments approach are then applied in the areas of fossil fuel policy, nuclear energy, the global environment, renewable energy and energy sustainability.
