Building Enterprise Skills
About this subject
On completion of this subject you will be able to:
- analyse the range of enterprise skills you will require in the context of your future career(s)
- select and engage with career learning experiences that foster your professional and personal development
- critically reflect on and evaluate your progress in career learning.
- Evaluation of the current graduate employment market.
- Creation of enterprise skills.
- Skill development through reflection and evaluation.
- Planning future career development goals.
This subject requires you to consider your current experiences, knowledge and skills in relation to those valued by employers in your discipline or field. As part of the journey, you will investigate current graduate job profiles, complete a series of ‘Career learning Experiences ’ which offer you personalised opportunities to build evidence of a number of enterprise skills evidenced through an online Career Learning e-Portfolio and develop your career plan for the next stage of your career learning.
Please Note: All students studying at Murdoch University will need to complete the compulsory unit, Murdoch Academic Passport (MAP100), which only takes 2-3 hours to complete online. Find out more: http://goto.murdoch.edu.au/MurdochAcademicPassport.
SELF ASSESSMENT: What enterprise skills do you need to succeed in your chosen career? Even if you aren’t sure where to take your degree qualification, this task should help. Identify three employment opportunities that fit with your future status as a graduating Murdoch student. They can be formally advertised roles for different positions or the same role with different employers aligned with your areas of study. If your qualification is leading you to self-employment or short-term engagements (‘gigs’), there may not be a formal advertising process and there will be assessment task options to cater for this. (20%)
CAREER LEARNING EXPERIENCE: In assessment 1 you will have selected three learning experiences. Each one will help you to develop one aspect of a single enterprise skill that you identified as necessary for your future career. These experiences can be engaged with online, however, some of the Learning Experiences will be available in on-campus modules which will run on specific dates. (50%)
PROFESSIONAL PLAN: At the conclusion of all Career Learning Experiences, you will have engaged with three of the eight enterprise skills identified in the FYA New Basics report. The final task is to produce an Enterprise Skill Development Plan that demonstrates your professional self-awareness through reflective self-evaluation. In the Enterprise Skill Development Plan (a workbook in your ePortfolio), you will assess your current ability in all eight of the enterprise skills and outline specific actions and milestones that will help you to activate your areas of strength and develop these skills further, either through formal study or other means. (30%)
All assessment items must be successfully completed for you to pass this subject.- Self Assessment (20%)
