About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- identify and analyse the key environmental factors that inform the relationship between physical environments and the tectonics of buildings
- demonstrate knowledge of fundamental structural systems by investigating architectural projects
- identify how buildings impact on human wellbeing and general sustainability.

This subject is an introduction to the theoretical and pragmatic relationships - the why and the how - between the built environment, natural environment and human environment in design. It introduces students to the fundamentals of tectonics such as structural systems and materials and related implications in terms of thermal, lighting and acoustics performance on architecture. Work integrated learning is incorporated through understanding the relationship between technology and the formal language of design in architecture.
