About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- apply the process of estimating and the techniques used by construction contractors in preparing a tender
- interpret contract documents in order to develop basic subject rates
- apply basic rates to calculate project estimates
- analyse sub-contractor quotations and synthesise into a tender document.

The history and development of estimating methods and principles used in contracting organisations. Strategic estimating areas such as tender preparation, the use of builder's bills of quantities, obtaining and checking sub-contractor quotations, pricing preliminaries and determining margins for profit and overheads.
