Graduate Certificate in Digital Health

Upon successful completion of this program, students should be able to:

1. Critically analyse societal, cultural, economic and technological factors that enable or inhibit patient, consumer and citizen engagement in safe, effective and efficient digital health service delivery and business models.
2. Evaluate the importance of data, information and knowledge management in digital health and the implications for effective governance in both health service delivery and citizens’ rights.
3. Analyse contextual considerations, including regulation, policies and standards, socio-economic, socio-technical and cultural sensitivities, funding, workforce and other capabilities, to the provision of digital health services.
4. Design an effective strategy for implementing digital health initiatives in two core socio-technical domains - electronic health records and virtual care delivery - using reflective leadership.

Digital Health Enablers and Technologies  

This course will examine the health, societal, and technological trends that are propelling digital health innovations and adoption. You’ll analyse the implications of digital disruption and transformation in the health sector. You’ll also explore barriers, risks, and enablers of digital health and identify the challenges associated with the applications of digital health on patient, consumers and citizen experiences. 

Data and Electronic Health Records

Electronic health records (EHR) are foundational to digital health and comprise a substantial platform with which to integrate other clinical support and patient engagement technologies. This course will examine a variety of related technologies and data governance that enable patient and consumer centred healthcare, and advanced clinical practice.

Applied Telehealth and Virtual Care

In this course, you’ll analyse the nature and scope of contemporary telehealth and virtual care models as well as emerging technological developments. By reviewing recent innovations, you’ll investigate issues associated with the use of telehealth and virtual care including human connection, privacy and security, ethics and governance.

Digital Health in Service Delivery

Digital Health in Service Delivery will take a practical view on how clinicians, allied, and contemporary health workers embed digital health into patient interactions and the delivery of healthcare in various settings and communities. You’ll explore consumer health technologies and examine the capabilities required for clinicians and organisations to effectively and safely deliver care in digitally-enabled settings. 

Strategy, Design and Change Management in Digital Health

The strategy and change management component of this course will evaluate digital health technologies for their evidence base and financial viability. You’ll a develop business plans and approach to enable meaningful adoption of these technologies and initiatives among workforces and clients.

Successfully completed an Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent overseas qualification) in health or a related field or an bachelor degree or equivalent, or higher-level qualification, in any discipline from a recognised tertiary institution and at least 1 year’s full-time experience in a health care or social setting.

At least five years’ full time experience working in health or social care or a related role with a portfolio of evidence demonstrating analysis and report writing. All applicants will be required to submit a curriculum vitae (CV)

If you wish to have industry or employment experience assessment as part of meeting the entry requirements, you will need to provide a CV/resume listing previous positions, dates of employment, and position responsibilities; a statement from your employer confirming these details (or contact details of an employer so RMIT can seek confirmation); and evidence of any relevant professional development undertaken.

International students are required to provide current evidence of English language proficiency for admission to RMIT University. You can provide your results from one of these three options:

1. an accepted English language proficiency test, or
2. an accepted English language provider, or
3. a recognised Australian or international qualification.
