Choosing the right research method can be bewildering.

How do we know which methodology is appropriate and whether the combination of research methods is suitable for the theoretical perspective we will employ?

Through the exploration of a set of common themes or topics, this unit will expose you to core research methods employed across disciplines in the Bachelor of Arts. 

BAR200 Developing Research Skills and Methods builds on the academic skills developed in BAR100 Academic Learning Skills.

On successful completion of this unit you will be able to:
  1. demonstrate understanding of validity and source in research;
  2. apply the principles and methods of textual interpretation to analyse arguments;
  3. identify the differences between primary and secondary sources;
  4. identify ethical considerations in research;
  5. articulate a written argument;
  6. apply the written conventions of your discipline;
  7. present an argument utilising conventions of oral and visual communication;
  8. independently organise and structure time;
  9. critically self-reflect, including the ability to give and receive constructive advice.
