About this subject
Upon completion of this subject, the student should be able to:
- Describe different methods of data analysis and presentation within a business setting.
- Create interactive models using software to facilitate the identification and evaluation of complex business problems.
- Design and create spreadsheets and data visualisation outputs to identify trends, patterns and relationships in data.
- Demonstrate the ability to work in a team to achieve agreed team outcomes.

The proliferation and ubiquity of data has created opportunities and challenges for businesses in today’s data-driven world. This subject introduces students to techniques and technologies related to business analytics for businesses to harness this wealth of data to create business value. Students will gain hands-on experience with software tools to analyze and present data to assist business decision-making. As the application of business analytics involves collaboration, this subject will also develop teamwork skills through group activities and assessments. This subject thus introduces students to the fundamentals of business analytics by introducing students to the various sources of data, software available for data analysis and different ways data can be presented to facilitate data-driven decision-making.

Single subjects are the individual components that make up a degree. With Open Universities Australia, you’re able to study many of them as stand-alone subjects, including postgraduate single subjects, without having to commit to a degree.
Each of your subjects will be held over the course of a study term, and they’ll usually require 10 to 12 hours of study each week. Subjects are identified by a title and a code, for example, Developmental Psychology, PSY20007.
First, find the degree that you would like to study on our website.
If that degree allows entry via undergraduate subjects, there will be information about this under the Entry Requirements section. You will find a list of 2-4 open enrolment subjects you need to successfully complete to qualify for admission into that qualification.
Once you pass those subjects, you will satisfy the academic requirements for the degree, and you can apply for entry.
