Explore and redefine public health practice to promote health in light of contemporary knowledge.
The courses are founded on a commitment to the advancement of quality and integrity in multidisciplinary practice, and principles of equity, inclusiveness, accountability and community participation.
The courses create opportunities for health professionals to examine workplace issues and to formulate new ways of addressing them and putting them into practice. The teaching and learning focuses primarily on helping health professionals change their practice in light of new insights. Topic assignments may be related to workplace issues and problems.
It is 1.5 years in length on a full-time basis and can also be undertaken part-time.

Available in a longer format for those without a Bachelor Degree in Health, and a fast-track version for those with adequate existing education or experience, this course is ideal for a range of students. Make your mark as a health leader.

The increasing use of the Internet and other digital media by both business and consumers is having a significant effect on business globally. For consumers, information and communication technologies (ICT) provide more information, convenience, and a wider range of, and access to, product choices. For businesses, ICT provides new channels to market their products, new ways to build and establish value-creating relationships with their customers, as well as opportunities to expand into new markets. However, due to the rapid evolution of digital technologies, the businesses are increasingly confronted with the need to participate and manage their marketing mix in a real-time, ever-changing digital environment. Hence it is imperative for businesses to be able to take advantage of the digital technologies as a means to sharpen their competitive advantages and marketing strategies.The focus of this subject is on developing students’ knowledge of digital and direct marketing as a strategic element of the marketing mix. It will develop students’ knowledge of key concepts, principles, and models needed to strategically manage digital and direct marketing in both B2B and B2C marketing contexts. The subject will develop students’ knowledge of when and how to use the various methods of digital and direct marketing at different stages of marketing strategy. The subject will develop students’ knowledge and ability to creatively plan, effectively implement, and critically evaluate the performance of different digital and direct marketing strategies.

Initially digital and social media seemed to be about &#39;virtual&#39; community; but these days, online and offline networking and community practices merge. Social media now plays a major role in &#39;being together&#39; - whether to maintain relations with friends and family, to advance political causes, to escape into fantasy worlds, or to strengthen communal belonging. In this subject, students will learn the dimensions of research and publication in the writing of history. Students will develop the skills needed to create narratives using local, family, social or material history and to produce a piece of writing for publication in print and/or online.

This subject helps you to understand how and why this has happened, and why it matters. It explores the new challenges and possibilities for governance created by the Internet, as well as attempts to control the Internet by governments and others. Graduate Online Power and Resistance

Tasmania and Australia are rich in history and heritage. What gets presented and celebrated however is contested and challenged. This subject does not only introduce a critical reading of heritage, it offers tools and frameworks for participants to reflect and be cognisant of the challenges of presenting the past, and address difficult challenges in offering heritage to the community and to tourists. Being sensitive and balanced is necessary but what that means is contested. By addressing difficult issues, this subject provides guidance on how to create, formulate and mediate exciting and meaningful heritage experiences.

Critical and Contested Issues in Cultural Heritage

This unit offers students the opportunity to develop a research project based on specific genres of creative writing and to reflect on how this affects their own creative practice. Students will have the opportunity to read and analyse different genres and to research current scholarship and publishing trends in these genres. Working independently, students will hone their critical research, writing, and presentation skills. By the end of this unit, students will gain a critical understanding of the contemporary academic and professional contexts of their own writing.

Research for Creative Writing

This subject was previously known as Digital Culture and Everyday Life.For many people, everyday life now involves constant interaction with the Internet via digitally networked platforms and devices. As cyberspace and real space come together, it can be easy to miss the impacts of the Internet on us and on our society and culture. Students will explore how their own experiences and ‘everyday Internet’ may be different from others, and the implications of this for studying digital culture. Graduate Digital Culture and Everyday Life

This subject examines the evidence base for, and the potential impact of, community-level initiatives aimed at (1) reducing the incidence of dementia in the general population, and (2) improving quality of life for those living with dementia. These are classed as public health approaches to dementia. The large- scale impact of dementia on societies, both current and forecast, is surveyed, and used to inform an evaluation of effective public health strategies initiatives designed to reduce this impact. Initiatives investigated include community-wide inclusion and support of people living with dementia and their carers, such as dementia friendly communities and environments, and dementia risk reduction efforts. You will be encouraged to develop skills to explain evidence, arguments and advice on dementia support and prevention in a variety of community contexts.

Community and Public Health Approaches to Dementia 1

This subject was previously known as GEOX802 Social Impact Assessment and Cross-Cultural Negotiation.Social impact assessment (SIA) is an important assessment tool which applies social science methodologies to the evaluation of a wide range of public policy proposals, including those relating to land use planning, social policies and public health. This unit addresses the theory and methods of SIA, discusses the public policy processes which use this assessment, and applies a critical perspective to the ethical dilemmas facing the SIA practitioner. There is a practical focus to the course work through the use of current case studies, and this provides students with an insight into pressures and political difficulties frequently encountered. Students will learn how to recognise and respond to these problems, and present issues to non-specialist audiences.

Understand how social impact assessment can help stakeholders with different world-views find common ground.Explore the difficulties that can arise during cross-cultural negotiations. Pick apart case studies that deal with issues like native title.

Social Impact Assessment

This course will explore the relationship between moral philosophy and applied ethics in professional life. Further, we study such issues as the relevance of ethics to specialisation, power and privilege in the professions, performance assessment, codes of ethics institutional values and corporate ethical culture. Specialist seminar topics may include: confidentiality, secrecy and truth telling in counselling; professional and management responsibility and accountability; dealing with power and authority, conflict resolution, performance assessment &amp; discipline.
