Working conditions

Signwriters spend a considerable amount of time in their workshops designing, building, painting and finishing their signs. As a result, signwriters may be exposed to a variety of chemicals and chemical fumes. This means that this occupation is not a good choice for those who are chemically sensitive. Additionally, signwriters do often have to work outdoors in various weather conditions and may do have to work on ladders and scaffolding which comes with an added risk of injury.
