About this subject
By the end of this 12-week subject, you'll be able to:
- Explore key concepts and models of health and apply them to maintaining health and wellbeing for individuals and populations.
- Discuss core principles of Public Health and examine its role in improving community and global health outcomes.
- Outline the structure of Australia’s healthcare system, compare public and private sectors, and consider intersectoral strategies for addressing health challenges.
- Describe the social determinants of health and identify patterns of inequality and vulnerability in relation to health outcomes.
- A guide to the topics you will explore in this unit will be provided in your study materials.
This subject provides students an introduction to the diversity of health theories and initiatives to improve health outcomes. Students will engage with key concepts including human right to health, social determinants of health, equality, equity and vulnerability. An introduction to Australia’s health system and intersectoral action will also be provided.
