This 8-unit program has been created specifically for registered general practitioners who want to advance their knowledge and skills in sports medicine.

You'll learn the fundamental aspects of sports medicine, including how to identify and treat acute and overuse injuries, injury prevention, rehabilitation and biomechanics.

Through the program, you'll acquire the skills to treat a range of active people, from amateur sports enthusiasts, elite athletes, children, and those with disabilities or advanced age. It will serve as an important backdrop within a general practice setting. 

The programs offer flexible, work-based learning and are delivered entirely online using proven online learning pedagogies (such as hands-on video tutorials) and discussion forums to allow contact with expert staff and other general practitioners. Assessment projects are highly practical and industry relevant and they can also be customised to your own development needs.

The Graduate Certificate in Sports Medicine is a 1 year course for a part-time student. Each year consists of 2 Study Periods, also known as semesters. The recommended study pattern consists of 4 core subjects, with 2 to be completed in your first study period and 2 in your second.

To be eligible for entry, you'll need:

• A degree in medicine, plus 2 years, full-time equivalent post-qualification clinical practice.
• To hold registration as a medical practitioner in country of practice.

You must have a grade point average (GPA) of 4.0 on a 7-point scale in your previous qualification, or evidence of being awarded a FRACGP, FACRRM, FACEM or equivalent.

Applicants who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander who meet the minimum entry requirements for this program will be offered a place. On admission to the program, you will need to provide evidence of your Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status.

Please note, duration of program is dependent on course availability. All of the sports medicine courses are offered externally and require internet access.

All applicants must satisfy the UQ English language proficiency requirements for admission.

If you've completed previous study, you may be eligible to receive credit for – or exemption from – certain subjects in a UQ program.
