Teacher resilience has been associated with teacher quality and positive outcomes for both educators and students. School leaders play a critical role in cultivating resilience for staff across the range of career phases and in leading resilient schools. This course focuses on the concept of resilience and why it is important for teachers and school leaders. Using understandings from theory and research, the course explores the influence of both individual and contextual factors in the resilience process along with strategies and practices that constrain and promote resilience. Drawing on theory and recent empirical research, the course will enable students to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of the concept of resilience and the personal qualities and strategies that promote resilience for themselves and others. Further, the course enables students to understand how school contexts support resilience and the operational, relational and strategic implications for school policies and practices. Throughout the course students will have opportunity to reflect on key themes in relation to their own experiences, understand and apply learning to current and future situations.

Building Resilient Teachers and Schools

This subject equips students with a knowledge of vessel hull forms, hydrostatic concepts and parameters, introduces the concepts of ship behaviour in waves and the process of evaluating the seakeeping characteristics of a vessel, and phases within the design process. The subject builds upon prior undergraduate engineering knowledge to develop the conceptual and analytical skills necessary at a detailed level of ship design with a particular emphasis required for initial parameter estimates.

Principles of Naval Architecture

Research is fundamental to creating innovative writing and constructing a believable storyworld: the shared universe within which settings, characters, and events unfold in a narrative. This unit focuses on developing the different types of research skills needed to create believable characters and vivid settings, and to use historical and contemporary events to ignite the imagination. Students learn how to engage in research that provides: relevant factual information for their topic; background material to assist with world-building; up-to-date scholarship on their genre of writing to gain a critical understanding of how their field has developed, and to identify current trends. Skills learned apply to different genres of writing such as historical or contemporary fiction, fantasy or futuristic writing, romance, crime, local or family history, and biography.

Writing the Past, Building New Worlds: Fiction and Non-Fiction

This subject was previously known as Architectural Culture Research Topics 1.Students use critical and analytical skills to develop an advanced understanding of themes, concepts and research methods relating to the theoretical, historical, social and cultural aspects of architecture and urban environments. Students are provided with a particular focus on exploring and understanding of the Australian First Nations worldview, and of Indigenous practices and Indigenous research methods. Students will be expected to gain knowledge of Caring for Country practices and implications for Country as an aspect of environmentally sustainable landscape. This will be done through a range of First Nation literature, design precedents and through a meaningful engagement with Indigenous communities. Architecture and Culture Research Topics and Methods

This subject focuses on learning research methods to solve real problems. You will come to understand how to design research, define an argument in response to the problems, use scholarly databases, consider ethical issues in data collection, generate field data, analyse and present these data, interpret results, and reflect on all these processes and their application to, for example, policy and professional contexts. The subject is a professional pathway in Masters programs in geography, planning, and spatial sciences.

Students will explore urbanisation trends in the context of existing and emerging sustainability challenges by reviewing cities worldwide.
