Corporate Responses: Thriving in Dynamic Global Business Environment

This course offers a conceptual framework covering public policy perspective on international trade, the impact of multilateral institutions and trade blocs on global business, foreign direct investment and management of multinational corporations. The course provides a basic foundation for understanding specialised courses in technology and the global economy, global marketing and entrepreneurship in a dynamic business environment.Students should not enrol in this course if they have previously completed 1005IBA Introduction to International Business and 2030IBA Global Business at Griffith University.

The purpose of this subject is to develop skills and competencies for leading and managing business sustainability in the global context. The unit explores both challenges and opportunities inherent in the interface between economic, environmental and social requirements, and applies key theories, concepts, frameworks and solutions to those requirements. Students will understand how economic, environmental and social requirements are integral and interrelated parts of the global and geo-political landscape within which businesses operate. Using problem-based learning, a grounding in business ethics and guidance from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, students who complete the unit will be better prepared to develop actions aimed at achieving business sustainability while considering a global perspective. Please Note: If it’s your first time studying a Curtin University subject, you’ll need to complete their compulsory ‘Academic Integrity Program’. Global Business Sustainability

This course is designed to explore contemporary social and ethical challenges facing global corporations in our increasingly globalised and inter-connected world. Through analysis of recent developments in Corporate Social Responsibility, triple-bottom-line accounting, and sustainability requirements, students will examine issues such as ethics and leadership, the shareholder-stakeholder debate, corruption, the changing trade environment as well as how modern corporations are dealing with the challenges of poverty, climate change, and dangerous conflict situations. The aim is to increase students&#39; ability to apply critical analysis and ethical principles to practical problems that they will face in the workplace and to engage with and influence ongoing debates on the future role of global corporations in contributing to a more prosperous and sustainable global environment.

Corporate Responsibility for Global Business

This course will provide students with a detailed understanding of the nature, process, coordination and management of business logistics in achieving sustainable business outcomes. Current issues considered include: warehousing and packaging, transport and its management, supply network designing for material/service/information flows; performance measurement and the engagement with external logistics service providers, logistics in a carbon constrained environment; scheduling in transport and service industries, and redesigning material and service flows in supply chains/networks. This course explores the international business environment in which organisations operate. The course examines the structure and features of the international markets, how organisations engage with these markets, and how they respond to their complexities. Students are introduced to useful theoretical and analytical frameworks that are crucial to understanding the opportunities and risks derived from the political, economic, social, technological, and institutional environment of countries. The course also reviews aspects of global institutions, such as the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which set global rules that profoundly affect business strategy and human welfare. Through this course, students are introduced to fundamental skills and competencies for further development towards an international business profession.

The primary aim of this subject is to introduce you to business management concepts and practice with particular emphasis on international business. The subject includes topics which will explore contemporary management theories and their application in a complex international environment. An important part of the subject is the attention given to human aspects of management which have added complexity in an international environment.
