Introduction to University Mathematics

About this subject

  • Upon completion of this subject, the student should be able to:

    1. Use mathematical terminology and notation to convey information related to elementary algebra, functions, graphs and calculus.
    2. Evaluate expressions and solve equations which contain linear, rational, quadratic, power, exponential, logarithmic or trigonometric expressions.
    3. Apply the product, quotient and chain rules of differentiation and anti-differentiation rules of integration to functions.
    4. Plot functions using algebra and calculus techniques to determine the x and y intercepts, and stationary points on the graph of a function.
    5. Apply algebra properties, function transformations and calculus techniques to interpret and solve simple real-world mathematical problems.
