At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- form a general understanding of the game development industry – skill, culture, and theory
- understand, and begin to build, the skills required to create professional quality game art and apply them to a game project
- understand some of the most important principles of game design and apply them in a game project.
- Plans, designs, and assets suitable for a specific target audience.
- Games or game modifications which achieve proposed design goals.
- Procedures and approaches to testing and collecting feedback.
- Methods for analysis of player feedback and subsequent product change recommendations.

- Equipment requirements - Required: Tablet (Graphics) (e.g. Wacom Bamboo, Intuos 4/5) Recommended (use of): PC/Mac with 4GB RAM and Dedicated graphics card
- Software requirements - Adobe Photoshop (via Adobe Creative Cloud Photography)
- Other requirements - Sketchpad
This subject introduces fundamental games art and design production concepts and processes, providing students with basic knowledge in concept art, game engine evaluation, game play, storyboarding,and basic workflow standards. Students are also introduced to games as a wider cultural and philosophical phenomena.

Assessment and feedback are iterative in that each assignment will cumulatively build on the next. Students receive feedback through in class discussion, student group work, and online assignment feedback and discussion. Students will also be expected to read additional technical articles and analyse commercial game media.
