Past La Trobe University students who have previously completed LIN3SEM (Semantics and Pragmatics: The Relationship Between Meaning and Use) are ineligible to enrol in this subject.
This subject focuses on how people understand communication through language. In particular, it explores how words, sentences, utterances and texts are used make meaning or do something in a certain context. A range of theoretical approaches and analytical tools used in the study of semantics and pragmatics will be introduced and applied.
