About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- Apply Big Data analytics to sport context and describe the impact on social media and sport communication.
- Utilise knowledge of the media, its purpose, structure and processes to appropriately respond to various sporting scenarios.
- Analyse sport organisation websites and social media platforms to evaluate their role in the stakeholder communication process.
- Develop industry-appropriate oral and written communication skills to create authentic digital communication artifacts.

The mass media have a unique fascination with sport. Sport obtains its own section in newspapers, as well as in radio and television broadcasts. There are numerous magazines devoted to sport. Coordination of relations between sport organisations and media has become a specialised realm of sport management.
Sport organisations coordinate their media relations through the Sports Information Director (SID) or media liaison officer. That person is responsible for developing relations with reporters and editors, formulating a media plan, and providing information to the press. Sport information is a pivotal component of the sport organisation's marketing communications campaign.

Single subjects are the individual components that make up a degree. With Open Universities Australia, you’re able to study many of them as stand-alone subjects, including postgraduate single subjects, without having to commit to a degree.
Each of your subjects will be held over the course of a study term, and they’ll usually require 10 to 12 hours of study each week. Subjects are identified by a title and a code, for example, Developmental Psychology, PSY20007.
First, find the degree that you would like to study on our website.
If that degree allows entry via undergraduate subjects, there will be information about this under the Entry Requirements section. You will find a list of 2-4 open enrolment subjects you need to successfully complete to qualify for admission into that qualification.
Once you pass those subjects, you will satisfy the academic requirements for the degree, and you can apply for entry.
