About this subject
At the completion of this subject you will be able to demonstrate:
- competence in drama scriptwriting using recognised script presentation and development formats including the logline, screenplay design plan and draft script
- an ability to analyse the construction of a range of drama texts
- a capacity for independent problem solving.
The subject will help develop the following analytical/critical evaluation/written communication skills:
- character construction
- various approaches to the structure and construction of screen narratives
- standard modes of script writing and formatting, including logline/screenplay design plan/draft and refined draft
- script-editing/redrafting practices.
- Devising a drama screen story idea
- Idea pitching and screenplay masterplan
- Revision, redrafting & polished presentation of short drama screenplays
Learn the script formats and development processes to design and write a short piece of drama screenwriting, up to 15 minutes in screen duration. The subject requires you to plan and develop a screenplay concept from idea through to an effective design plan. From this, you will then write the first act of your screenplay for critical assessment, before refining the work into a professionally formatted full draft including revised first act, second and third act of your screenplay. The primary focus of the subject is on mastery of the elements of effective screen story design, structure and dynamics.
