Subject details
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- work collaboratively with external organisation to negotiate and identify a problem and formulate appropriate solutions
- demonstrate analytical research and problem solving skills to address the problem
- design processes and techniques to engage others in consultation and feedback during the evolution of the solutions
- evaluate and communicate investigations and outcomes.

- The unit focused on developing practical application of project based and problem solving skills in real world scenarios. Some of the key topics are listed below but their precise combination will vary based on the scope of project undertaken by the student.
- • Development of a project concept with support from academic supervisor and/or work based supervisor
- • Project setup and knowledge levelling
- • Consultation processes and techniques
- • Tutorials/Mentoring sessions

Students are required to secure an internship opportunity. Internships can be conducted remotely or in person at the discretion of the hosting organisation.

This subject provides students with an opportunity to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and engage with an external organisation (e.g industry partner, community, voluntary organisation,…) on a project / problem specific to the organisation’s needs. It aims to provide students with an opportunity to apply independent problem solving in real world scenarios, supported by both an academic and a work based supervisor. Importance is placed on the project design process in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative environment and students are responsible for developing strategies to meet the challenges of working in this type of environment.
