At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- apply basic knowledge of Japanese grammar and vocabulary to communicate effectively in daily situations
- compose basic sentences using the target structures
- compare and contrast Japanese culture with their own, and other cultures, in English and Japanese
- Asking for and giving directions

This subject has an emphasis on the interactive use of the Japanese language and further develops communicative competence in speaking, listening, reading, writing and cultural knowledge. It provides students with opportunities to apply and extend skills with a focus on practical, everyday use of the Japanese language. Students are able to compare and contrast Japanese culture with their own, and other cultures through situating the use of the Japanese language in relevant social and cultural contexts.
