What you'll learn

Upon successful completion of this program, students should be able to:

  1. Differentiate between the fundamental principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.
  2. Apply advanced practice knowledge, skills and / or technologies to conduct a comprehensive clinical assessment for patients specific to clinical practice.
  3. Critically analyse current evidence-based knowledge to plan and deliver medication education for patient cohorts / significant others specific to area of clinical specialty.
  4. Justify the rationale for medication selection for patients specific to area of clinical specialty.
  5. Develop patient medication care plans for patients within your specialty practice area.
Entry requirements

Work and Life

Must be practicing as a Registered Nurse for at least two years (24 months) since graduation prior to the start of the course.

Must provide evidence of AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse and or Midwife with no restrictions or conditions.

Must provide a personal statement in eApplication, or a CV or Resume which states the specialty practice area in which the applicant works as a Registered Nurse and for the length of time.

Description

The Graduate Certificate in Therapeutic Medication Management is designed for experienced Registered Nurses or Registered Midwives looking to develop knowledge and enhanced practical skills in therapeutic medication management. Using an ‘across the life span’ approach, concepts such as prescribing, administering, monitoring, and evaluating medications in accordance with Commonwealth and State legislation and policy will be explored.


You will also gain an understanding of the differences between pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics, how medications are absorbed, distributed, and metabolised, and learn to develop individual patient medication management plans.

Your studies will incorporate the principles of medication management from neonatal, paediatrics through to the older persons, and includes cultural and indigenous considerations of medication use and prescribing.
