Upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Public and Environmentally Sustainable Health, students should be able to:
- Identify, critically appraise and use common sources of data to describe the health of populations and how this is shaped by the biological, social and environmental determinants of health
- Apply basic epidemiology and biostatistics to describe and analyse public health challenges
- Communicate effectively across a range of mediums to enhance collaboration, engagement and advocacy for public health outcomes
- Apply a systems approach to building environmentally sustainable health and health care.
The program is ideal for Australian and New Zealand university graduates who are interested in:
- a career in public health
- assisting with implementing environmental sustainability plans in the health sector, and/or
- working in non-government and industry organisations seeking to align their business with broader public health and environmental sustainability requirements.
Higher education
The following criterion applies to students seeking admission to the Graduate Certificate in Public and Environmentally Sustainable Health:
- Possession of a recognised three- or four-year Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline which demonstrates the applicant’s potential to undertake and complete study at AQF level 8 equivalence.
English Proficiency Requirements
You may be required to demonstrate an ability to understand and communicate in both written and spoken English at a level adequate for the purpose of pursuing the program of study.

Special requirements
The program will be delivered using a combination of self-directed and online learning. Learning activities are delivered via 3-hour long evening classes starting at 6pm (Australian Eastern Standard Time) Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Applications for Advanced Standing and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) will be considered and reviewed on a case by case basis by UNDA's Student Administration.
The Graduate Certificate in Public and Environmentally Sustainable Health introduces learners to the basic principles and methods of public health, systems thinking and environmental sustainability. The program emphasises the collection and sources of routine public health and social data, epidemiology, biostatistics and communication skills. earners are introduced to a broad range of contemporary public health issues including the challenges that climate change and environmental degradation pose to health and healthcare systems. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are used as an integrating structure across the whole program. The Graduate Certificate of Public and Environmentally Sustainable Health is an articulated qualification that forms the foundation for the Graduate Diploma and/or Master of Public and Environmentally Sustainable Health.

- MEDI5016 Contemporary Issues in Public Health and an Introduction to Systems Thinking
- MEDI5001 Scientific Literacy and Communication
- MEDI5017 Foundations of Epidemiology and an Introduction to Biostatistics
