Graduate Certificate in Digital Health

The Graduate Certificate in Digital Health is designed to ensure its students will develop an evidence-based foundation of expert knowledge and a sound understanding of relevant concepts and application of specialised skills to suit the health industry. Graduates of the Certificate in Digital Health will have advanced knowledge and skills in the fundamentals of health data, information technology, data science, analytics and programming. 

Graduates of the Graduate Certificate in Digital Health should be able to:

1. Apply advanced knowledge and skills to use specialised technologies and techniques to collect, analyse, interpret, evaluate and report meaningful data required to support decision making at any level within the health data supply chain;
2. Critically analyse critically various options for digital concept representation, including SNOMED-CT, LOINC, ICD (International Classification of Diseases) and DRG (Diagnostic Related Groups) fundamentals, and evaluate the implications for data collection, storage retrieval and use.;
3. Demonstrate advanced cognitive, technical and communication skills that skills that promotes the ethical use of data and data integrity at every data point to ensure patient safety and dignity of the person.

The Graduate Certificate in Clinical Nursing is designed to expand your knowledge and skills in clinical nursing and practice. You can choose either gerontological nursing or correctional health as your clinical specialisation. You will develop your holistic care skills in specialty practice, including person- and family-centred health promotion. Specific knowledge in the areas of bioscience, pharmacology, and lifespan development, relevant to your chosen specialty, will also be explored and applied to your clinical nursing practice.

Students admitted with a Bachelor degree in Health or in any other field of study or with suitable experience:

Pathway 1 (40 cp)  

To qualify for the Graduate Certificate in Digital Health, a student must complete 40 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of: 

20 cp from Health Units

20 cp from Information Technology Units

Health Units:

• HLSC505 Health Data Fundamentals (10cp)
• HLSC506 Strategic Management in Digital Health Service Delivery (10cp)
• PHIL519 Ethical Practice in Digital Health (10cp)

Information Technology Units:

• ITEC610 Python Fundamentals for Data Science (10cp)
• ITEC613 Introduction to Data Science and Machine Learning (10cp)
• ITEC615 Fundamentals of Information Technology (10cp)

Students admitted with a Bachelor degree in Information Technology or with Information Technology industry experience:

Pathway 2 (40 cp)  

To qualify for the Graduate Certificate in Digital Health, a student must complete 40 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of: 

30 cp from Health Units

10 cp from Information Technology Units

Award requirements

To qualify for the degree, a student must complete 40 cp from the schedule of subject offerings.

To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites: 

A: Bachelor degree in Health or Information Technology 

 OR 

B: Bachelor degree in any other field of study

 OR 

C: submit a resume alongside their formal application, demonstrating suitability for study (e.g., evidence of relevant Health or Information Technology industry experience and/or prior learning over a sustained period)

International English Language Testing System - Academic (IELTS): Overall score: 6.5 with an individual score of 6.0 in all tests

Pearson Test of English (PTE): 58 with a minimum of 50 in all four communicative skills

Test of English as a Foreign Language - Academic (TOEFL): Internet based total of 79 with a minimum of 21 in writing, 18 in speaking, 13 in reading and 12 in listening

ACU English Language Test: B (65-74%

Cambridge Advanced English (CAE): Overall CAE of 176 with a minimum individual score of 169 in all test areas.

If your previous study has equipped you with knowledge, skills or experiences that align with the learning outcomes of units in your new course you may be able to apply for recognition of prior learning and you may be able to complete your course sooner. Speak to your course consultant for more information or to discuss your eligibility. ACU will consider requests for advanced standing based on prior studies to a maximum equivalence of 2 subjects (20cp).
