What you'll learn

Upon successful completion of this program, students should be able to: 

  1. Evaluate solutions for contemporary business issues by applying fundamental business principles.
  2. Critically reflect on business theories, principles and processes and evaluate their efficacy in current practice.
  3. Explain complex business problems to audiences with varying business expertise including those characterised as culturally and linguistically diverse.
Career opportunities

Completion of this program gives students the opportunity to undertake further postgraduate programs with the Tasmanian School of Business and Economics, which may have career change or advancement benefits for graduates.

Entry requirements

Higher education

Successful completion of an Australian Associate Degree degree or equivalent (or higher).

VET studies

A completed Australian Advanced Diploma or above.

Work and Life

At least two years' management experience.* You must provide evidence to support your eligibility for the degree, in particular a copy of your CV showing your work experience, and letters of reference from line managers or similar to confirm the work experience meets the minimum level for entry. Minimum management experience in this case is defined as supervisory, team leader or business manager experience. In the case of applicants who have worked as a sole trader or consultant, additional evidence to support the level of experience must be provided. All applications based on this must be referred to UTAS.

Description

The Graduate Certificate in Business Studies is a generalist course designed to introduce you to the core skills and knowledge to succeed in business. You will cultivate your critical thinking and analysis, reflective practice and professional presentation, as well as develop a knowledge base of contemporary business theory and practices in the foundations of marketing, accounting and accountability, sustainability and management.


This Graduate Certificate is also a potential pathway for students who have not studied at university before, but who may be interested in further postgraduate study with the Tasmanian School of Business and Economics.
