Bachelor of Construction Management (Building) (Honours)

Upon completion of this program, graduates will have:

1. Knowledge of the construction industry, the environment and social processes that inform and contribute to construction practice, to optimise decision-making and evaluation of construction practices and processes.
2. Skills to communicate effectively with stakeholders and members of construction teams to facilitate project delivery.
3. Demonstrated leadership potential as appropriate, to manage construction and construction related projects and/or processes.
4. Skills to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in interdisciplinary and multi professional environments and teams to facilitate client-centred construction project outcomes.
5. Performed the range of industry skills required by professional bodies, appropriate to their employer and context.
6. Conducted and employed research skills appropriate to the building and construction industry.
7. Demonstrated professional and personal behaviour consistent with a commitment to lifelong learning, accountability in practice and the promotion and development of construction industry professions.
8. Demonstrated the capacity for lateral and creative thinking to solve construction engineering problems.
9. Demonstrated understanding and function in the context of social, cultural, global, environmental, ethical and business opportunities in the construction industry, and an understanding of the need for and principles of sustainable development.

Construction management graduates work in a range of leadership roles in the industry. This includes project management, contract management, quantity surveying, estimating, building surveying, building certification, facilities management, property development and WHS. They manage physical buildings and infrastructure projects either onsite or from an office. 

Construction managers lead and coordinate design and construction processes. They liaise with clients and consultants, and select, hire and supervise various contractors. They’re also responsible for managing the legal and financial aspects of the project.

Recommended study pattern

In the Bachelor of Construction Management (Building) (Honours) program students are required to complete 320 units, which is comprised of: 

• 280 units of Core Courses; 
• 10 units from the course list; and
• 30 units of electives.
