This course prepares graduates for further study or to work at the paraprofessional level as asset managers, drafters, estimators, inspectors, modellers, planners, property managers, safety officers, schedulers, site supervisors, surveyors, project managers, team leaders, technical writers, testers and project managers in the civil construction industry.
Entry requirements
Secondary education
ATAR: 45 or Equivalent
There are many pathways to university. An offer on the basis of your high school results is just one.
If your ATAR is not high enough for the course you desire, you can complete one of our fee-free pathway programs – Preparing for Success Program (three-month course) or Transition to Uni (six-week intensive course over summer). These provide excellent preparation for university, equipping you with the academic and study skills you need to succeed.
If you successfully complete a pathway course – delivered through SCU College – you may then apply for entry to a range of Bachelor degrees.
English Proficiency Requirements
English language requirements apply to International applicants and other applicants whose previous study was undertaken in a language other than English.
The minimum English language requirements for such applicants for entry to this course are as follows:
- Overall: 5.5
- Writing: minimum 5.5
- Reading: minimum 5.0
- Speaking: minimum 5.0
- Listening: minimum 5.0
Practicum placement
You will need to undertake at least one seven-week work placement. Ideally, you will complete the entire course while working in industry, although this is not mandatory.
Credit for previous study or work
Applicants or students that can provide supporting documents to verify they already know, understand and can perform the learning outcomes for one or more units within a Southern Cross course, are eligible to have their prior learning assessed for credit by submitting an application for Advanced Standing.
Description
Looking to progress your career in the civil construction industry? The course is designed for school leavers or those with a trade qualification who are looking to upskill and move into supervisory roles. It has a focus on developing technical and practical skills needed by industry.
Graduate opportunities exist as site supervisors and project managers in the civil construction industry. This course also provides a pathway to further study in civil engineering at a Bachelor or Associate Degree level.
