What you'll learn

This degree will help you advance your career in aviation management and thrive in the constantly changing aviation environment.

You will study courses that directly relate to job functions in the aviation industry. In your final year, you will have the opportunity to undertake a short research project, which allows you to make a valuable contribution to an area in the aviation industry that interests you and can be sponsored by an organisation or individual within the aviation industry.

Our aviation staff have strong industry ties and are world leaders in air travel safety research and focus on the human elements in flight operations to help improve safety. Over the past 20 years teaching in this field, we have built an international reputation for graduates who are industry ready.

Career opportunities

As a graduate, you will be prepared for employment in aviation management. You will also be able to apply your management skills to many areas of the aviation industry including: airlines, air traffic service providers, maintenance and repair organisations, and government organisations, such as the Australian Defence Force and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).

Our graduates have been successful in gaining a range of flying and management positions with organisations such as Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Etihad, Jetstar, Qantas and Regional Express as well as Airservices Australia and CASA.

Professional Entry pathway

To be eligible for admission, an applicant must have the following:

  • at least an AQF Associate Degree or equivalent (as assessed by the Program Director) in an area relevant to the degree majors

Upon acceptance, students will be granted 120 credit points of advanced standing on the basis of their qualifications and experience.

VET qualification, Certificate III

Work and Life

At least five years equivalent full-time work experience* in the Aviation industry and either

  • professional Aviation industry qualifications (for example, Air Traffic Controller, Licensed Aeronautical Maintenance Engineer or Commercial Pilot)
    OR

  • technical Aviation industry certification plus at least a Certificate IV level qualification in a field relevant to the degree majors, where the assessed learning outcomes are judged to be equally acceptable within the structure of the University award (for example, Cabin Crew).

* Those entering via work experience are required to submit two references from previous or current employers confirming employment as a professional within their organisation. This letter should be provided on company letterhead verifying the approximate length of professional employment within their organisation.

English Proficiency Requirements

English language requirements apply to International applicants and other applicants whose previous study was undertaken in a language other than English. The minimum English language requirements for such applicants for entry to this program are as follows:

  • A minimum overall band score of 6.5 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 6.0
  • OR a minimum score of 575 on TOEFL
  • OR an internet-based (iBT) TOEFL score of 79 (no sub-score less than 19)
  • OR no score less than 3+ in each skill of the ISLPR (conducted by ISLPR Language Services only)
  • OR a minimum overall score of 176 (no score less than 169) on C1 Advanced (formerly Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English) or C2 Proficiency (formerly Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English)
  • OR an overall score of 58 in the Pearson Test of English (Academic) with no score less than 50.

English test results must be no more than two years old.

Students who successfully complete the Direct Entry Program (DEP) will satisfy the English Language requirements for this Griffith degree.

Award Requirements

Standard stream

For Domestic and those International students not required to complete the English Language Enhancement course

For the award of the Bachelor of Aviation Management (BAvnMgt), you must successfully complete 240 credit points, made up of the core courses AND

  • 20 credit points of listed electives;
  • 30 credit points of free-choice electives.

Other program requirements

You must successfully complete:

  • no more than 100 credit points of Level 1 courses (the first digit of a course code denotes the level);
  • at least 60 credit points of Level 3 courses or higher.

Professional Entry stream

For Domestic and those International students not required to complete the English Language Enhancement course

For the award of the Bachelor of Aviation Management (BAvnMgt), students entering with 120 credit points of Advanced standing must successfully complete 120 credit points, made up of the core courses AND

  • 20 credit points of free-choice electives;
  • a maximum of 10 credit points of Level 1 courses.

This degree/s may be awarded with Distinction where a student achieves a minimum program GPA of 6.5 with no failed courses. The words 'This award was achieved with Distinction' will be recorded on the testamur and will appear below the conferral date of the award.
