At the completion of this degree students will be able to:

This major provides the knowledge and skills relevant to working in business or government. It does not lead to a professional legal qualification allowing admission to practice as a solicitor or barrister, but it does meet the increasing needs of government and industry for graduates with a background in law and business studies.
Higher education via OUA
- Successful study through OUA – either:
- Successful completion of four OUA degree level subjects at pass level (this satisfies English language proficiency requirement) OR
- Successful completion of two OUA degree level subjects with separate evidence of English proficiency is required.
Higher education
- Successful completion of one full time semester (four standard subjects) towards an Undergraduate or higher level of study at an Australian University (separate evidence of English proficiency is not required).
Secondary education
- Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) 70 or equivalent. Students must have English ATAR, Literature ATAR or English as an Additional Language/Dialect ATAR. VET studies

- Must have a 50% minimum in English ATAR (or equivalent).

Credit for Recognised Learning (CRL) is assessed on individual merit and is awarded for different types of learning, for example, studies you have previously completed or for relevant work experience.
Students must be admitted in an award degree of study before lodging their completed CRL application, along with all required supporting documentation for a formal assessment.

Curtin University offers an opportunity for students to study a business law major as part of the Bachelor of Commerce degree. Students will examine the processes by which law is created, changed and applied to business and government. In this major you will gain a foundation in business law and develop significant knowledge of torts, real property, trusts and trade practices.
This degree also provides students with the capacity to gain an understanding of contract law, company law, taxation law, industrial law, intellectual property law and trade practices law.
Recommended Study Pattern
Students must complete 24 subjects and meet the following requirements:
- Complete eight compulsory core subjects
- Complete eight major subjects in Business Law
- Complete eight elective subjects
- Complete at least twelve Curtin University subjects
- Complete no more than ten Level 1 subjects overall
- You are expected to have an adequate level of English when undertaking all subjects in this degree

Majors
Students must complete eight core business subjects plus eight major subjects in business law.
Electives
Students must complete eight elective subjects. These subjects may be taken from a selection of business subjects listed below or from any OUA subject.
We recommend that all students, as soon as they are eligible, should apply for and take a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP). The Business Pathway has been removed.
Changes to Level 1 Core Subjects:
· ACC100 has been retired and replaced by ACC102 Financial Decision Making.
o Students who have completed ACC100 do not need to complete ACC102.
· MKG100 has been retired and replaced by BLW100 Markets and Legal Frameworks
o Students who have completed MKG100 do not need to complete BLW100.
· COM12 has been removed and replaced by MMK100 Communication, Culture and Indigenous Perspectives in Business
o Students who have completed COM12 prior to 2021 do not need to complete MMK100.
· IBA111 has been removed and replaced by MMK101 Strategic Career Design
o Students who have completed IBA111 prior to 2021 do not need to complete MMK101.
· INF10003 has been removed and replaced by ECO100 Analytics for Decision Making
o Students who have completed INF10003 prior to 2021 do not need to complete ECO100.
· BLW14 has been retired and replaced by BLW101 Introduction to Business Law
o Students who have completed BLW14 do not need to complete BLW101 (Business Law Major Only*)
- It is recommended that students undertake BLW101 prior to enrolling in BLW15.
* Course Switchers - Students who have completed BLW14 and intend to enrol in the Business Law Major from 2021, please contact Curtin University to discuss your CRL.
Changes to Level 2 Core Major Subjects:
· BLW15 Applied Contract Law is now a Level 1 Core subject for students commencing from 2021.
Changes to Level 3 Core Major Subjects:
· BSC301 Business Capstone has been retired and replaced by MMK300 Enhancing Your Business Mind.
o Students who have completed BSC301 do not need to complete MMK300
Students will not be penalised for completing subjects no longer found in the program structure.
