This degree is designed for people seeking to attain an Initial Teacher Education qualification in order to register as a teacher in Australia and any other countries that recognise an Australian teaching qualification. Specifically, this degree provides a qualification for those intending to teach children birth to eight years of age at the early childhood level of education.Students will develop advanced critical skills, knowledge and understanding concerning best practice in education and in meeting the needs of children. Students will have four opportunities to engage in professional experience in schools and early learning centres, culminating in a final professional placement of a block one full school term in a school environment.Subjects cater for the different needs of early childhood education pre-service teachers. Subject content prepares early childhood education pre-service teachers for the profession and includes planning and programming, educational leadership, play-based learning, and understanding the diverse needs of children.Please note that this course is only available to applicants who are residing in Australia for the duration of their degree. As this course doesn’t hold CRICOS registration international students on a Student VISA are not permitted to undertake this course.

Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education)

Graduates from this degree will be well-placed to enter leadership pathways in their teaching careers. Most subjects in this degree will be offered fully online, in order to provide more flexible access. Students will have four opportunities to engage in professional practice in schools, culminating in a final professional placement of 5 continuous weeks.The Master of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) will be chosen by those who wish to teach in schools in K - 2, or who are seeking educator roles in Early Childhood Education and Care settings. This major encompasses children from birth - 8 years of age, and subjects studied will include management and leadership of Early Childhood Education and Care centres, as well as school curriculum and general pedagogical approaches. Professional experience placements will be completed by all students in this major across the full age range of birth-8 years.Please note that this course is only available to applicants who are residing in Australia for the duration of their degree. This is the third in the suite of professional experience subjects and includes both a theory and a practical component (a placement in a Kindergarten or Pre-primary setting). With a focus on children aged three to five years old, approaches to creating emotionally supportive, equitable, healthy, safe and effective learning environments are critically examined. The design of supportive environments is contextualised within approaches to constructing collaborative partnerships and positive reciprocal relationships with children, families, and communities. The subject emphasises the application of learning, teaching and assessment approaches to meet the diverse needs of children in this age group. The examination of data relevant to early childhood education and the implications for learning and teaching are explored. The professional experience practical assessment is a four (4) week full-time block placement in a Kindergarten or Pre-primary setting intended to enable practical application of knowledge and skills covered in the theory, along with providing further insights into the complexity of the teacher’s role. All required clearances to work with children must be obtained and valid, and all other professional experience requirements met. Early Childhood Professional Experience 3: Kindergarten to Pre-Primary Learning Environments

This subject is designed to investigate the knowledge, skills and understandings young children need as they connect with their world and continue to grow as active and contributing citizens. An inquiry approach underpins the development of an integrated teaching plan and collaborative inquiry from the Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) learning areas and includes Aboriginal culture, knowledge and understandings. The subject examines pedagogical approaches, theoretical perspectives and research which assist students to plan and implement teaching and learning programs to support children (birth – 8 years) as they build their sense of belonging and citizenship in the family and community. Early Learning Through the Humanities and Social Sciences

This subject was previously known as EDE282 Health and Physical Education in Early Childhood.
This subject investigates health, and wellbeing factors related to the development and care of young children (birth - 6 years). This includes examining social and emotional, linguistic, and cognitive development of children from birth to 8 years. Mandatory health, safety and child protection policies are examined together with appropriate strategies that educators in early childhood settings can effectively implement to enhance the outcomes for young children. These strategies will not only help maintain a healthy early childhood environment, but will also improve outcomes for the whole community within an early childhood educational context. The subject also explores the characteristics of children&#39;s physical development and motor coordination and how educators can provide children with quality fundamental movement experiences.

This subject investigates ways to support young children’s inquiry into natural science including environmental education and sustainability by engaging their curiosity and desire to explore science content. The subject examines pedagogical approaches, theoretical perspectives, and research which assist educators to plan and implement teaching and learning programs which engage children (birth - 8 years) in authentic and meaningful science experiences.

Engaging Children in Science

This is the first in the suite of professional experience subjects and includes both a theory and a practical component (a placement in a school). This subject focuses on children aged six to eight years old in school settings. Provided is a comprehensive overview of theory and practices in establishing and creating emotionally supportive, equitable, healthy, safe and effective learning environments that achieve desired current curriculum outcomes. Students are supported in both the theory and practical components of the subject to become reflective educators who critique and apply their knowledge of multiple pedagogies, the curriculum, their role as a facilitator, design elements of a rich learning environment, and a range of approaches to authentically practise, document and assess learning. The professional experience practical assessment is a three (3) week full-time block placement with children aged six to eight years old in school-based settings intended to enable practical application of knowledge and skills covered in the theory, along with providing further insights into the complexity of the teacher’s role. All required clearances to work with children must be obtained and valid, and all other professional experience requirements met.
