Multimedia Specialist and Web Developers

Multimedia Specialists and Web Developers use a variety of software and techniques to create digital or visual graphic images for multimedia, and create and maintain web sites and applications. They should have strong technical abilities with software and scripting programs, creativity and be able to understand client and stakeholder objectives for projects.

Duties and tasks

  • Create and support web sites using and developing computer coding with other specialised image and audio files, scripting languages and graphics
  • Evaluate and cultivate web development plans and strategies, as well as standard practices
  • Evaluate client requests to design and create web sites using originality and creativity as well as scripting and software programming
  • Program languages and audio into multimedia programs, cuing and setting up timing
  • Use a variety of tools and multimedia software and graphics to produce digital animations, imaging, games, and audio and video clips
  • Work with ICT network professionals to support projects on web-related problems, implement security and user access and create recovery and backup programs

Working conditions

Multimedia Specialists and Web Developers typically work regular Monday to Friday hours, but may need to work evenings or weekends in order to meet deadlines and work on projects. They typically work in offices, workshops or design studios using a variety of computer and digital software equipment. They may need to travel locally to meet with clients regarding projects and objectives.
