Statistician
Statisticians develop or apply statistical theory and methods to collect, interpret, organise and compile numerical data. This data is then used to solve problems in a specialised field, such as biology, agriculture, business or economics.
Duties and tasks
- Analyses and interprets statistical data
- Designs research projects for collecting data
- Ensures validity, efficiency and accuracy of statistical methods
- Organises information in chart, table or graph form
- Processes large amounts of data
- Represents the organisation and/or team in a positive manner
- Supervises clerks collecting and compiling data
Skills required
- A Bachelors degree in related field
- Accuracy with numbers
- Good managerial and organisational skills
- Strong communication skills
- Working knowledge of computer programs
Working conditions
Statisticians work in an office, Monday through Friday, for at least 40 hours a week. Much of their time is spent in front of a computer. Statisticians may need to travel to present information.
